EX-EASTENDERS star Dean Gaffney, below, is set to tread the boards at the Lighthouse Poole in November. A brand new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic The Pickwick Papers will feature the actor alongside John D Collins (Allo, Allo) and Rebecca Wheatley (Casualty).

The Pickwick Papers runs from November 5-9 and follows the eccentric journey of the high-minded Samuel Pickwick as he travels around the country in 1827, attempting to use his massive brain to “observe human nature” for the greater good of mankind.

Accompanied by his friend, the hapless Nathaniel Winkle, and his cockney manservant, Sam Weller, Pickwick runs into a multitude of colourful personalities on their weird and wonderful “perambulations, perils, travels and adventures” including Mr Jingle, Mrs Bardell and the Fat Boy.

The play has been adapted by Nicola Boyce who recently brought to the stage the successful versions of A Christmas Carol and The Woman in White. Respected stage and screen actors David Callister and Richard Tate complete the cast.

Expect dueling, elopement, bribery, fisticuffs, mistaken identity, near drowning, and finally, imprisonment for debt on the original road trip story in an Ian Dickens production that will speak to all ages with this classic.
