SOME good news has been brewing in Dorset this week. Now you can enjoy a quality local beer and support a good cause at the same time.

For Wimborne's newest brewery, The Brew Shack which produces beer with 100 per cent natural ingredients, has teamed up with a local charity to create LEAF Pale Ale.

Adam Bascombe, head brewer and owner of The Brew Shack explains: “As well as producing fresh, new beers, I want to ensure the brewery becomes a positive part of the local community.

"That’s why I approached Leaf, a local charity supporting people suffering from blood cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma.

"I have worked with Natasha, Leaf’s Founder, to produce “LEAF Pale Ale”. It will be on sale here at the brewery, local pubs and beer festivals.

"For each pint sold, 10p will be donated to Leaf, and I plan for the famous Leaf “piggy banks” to be prominent on every bar. I’m hoping local people will be pleased to support such a worthwhile cause."

Natasha Hunt, founder of Leaf, and herself in remission from leukaemia, says: “It was brilliant to be approached by Adam who is looking to make a positive contribution to the community.

"Through the creative and generous idea of brewing a special beer with our name on it, I’m hoping there will be a raising of awareness of Leaf, and how it works to support sufferers and their families, as well as raising some money to help in our work."

Jon Smallwood, in remission from lymphoma since 2009 adds: “As a vegetarian I was very keen to try Adam’s beers, which are all suitable for vegans. I was really impressed by the taste and variety of his brews”.

Jon also pointed out an interesting comparison. “Wetherspoons in Wimborne supports Clic Sargent, a national children’s cancer charity so it’s great to see a parallel with a small brewery doing the same good work on a local scale”.

LEAF Pale Ale was launched at The Tap House in Wimborne on Thursday with a proclamation by the Wimborne Town Crier.

LEAF Pale Ale is now available at a number of local pubs and The Brew Shack, which is open 2pm to 7pm every Friday.

LEAF Pale Ale 4% is described as a bright, hoppy session ale brewed using low colour Maris Otter barley and fresh whole leaf English hops.
