The enduring popularity of this long running BBC programme was amply demonstrated as an audience of more than 3,000 packed the Windsor Hall for the latest leg of the show’s live tour.

The three big stars were there – Sue Barker and team captains Matt Dawson (with Dominic Cork and Iwan Thomas) and Phil Tufnell (ably supported by Andrew Castle and Martin Bayfield).

There was a great atmosphere and it was difficult to figure out who was having more fun, the punters or those on the stage.

MC Andy Collins warmed up with a bit of audience participation – singing, dancing and arm waving.

“I want to create a football stadium feeling,” he said. “Imagine your team is 3-0 up. Not something you are used to in Bournemouth.”

The teams arrived on stage to thunderous applause and there followed a couple of hours of sporting trivia, knockabout entertainment and an avalanche of good natured jokes at Ms Barker’s, each other’s and Mike Tindall’s expense.

Whizzing through the various rounds – familiar to fans of the small screen version, the night ended with Tuffers snatching a last gasp 31-30 victory, the final answer being Boris Becker.

On the tour, he now trails 10-9.

Daws and Tuffers – the undisputed star of the show with his cheeky approach and great sense of comic timing – also did an entertaining Q and A session at the start of the second half.

On England’s recent rugby antics Dawson said: “There was once difference in my day. We didn’t get caught. A little tip for you. Always use the back door.”

And on the Pakistan betting scandal, Tuffers added: “I bet they’ve got a great cricket team in that prison.”

Led by the two captains, the teams and Ms Barker clearly had a great time.

Their enthusiasm and enjoyment was infectious.

A brilliant night out.
