IT'S been the perfect rock Cockney partnership for over 40 years. But while Charles Hodges is intending to continue with his own band, Dave Peacock says he’s hanging up his hat for good, making this tour of those inimitable London likely lads, Chas and Dave, ‘allegedly’ the very last.

With their Bournemouth fans out in force for an arms waving singalong send off, the blend of comic songs, rock favourites, old standards and ballads, with even the odd classical piece thrown in, were all given Chas’s brilliant piano treatment – his frantic boogie style inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis with whom he actually toured as a bass player – along with Dave’s own clever bass runs, and Chas’s son Nik backing on drums.

The first half recreated their pub gigs routine from the early seventies, ranging from Big Bill Broonzy’s sentimental Glory Of Love, to the ribald Music Hall number The End Of Me Old Cigar.

After the interval it was on with the party and their ever popular hits, among them Gertcha, Snooker Loopy, Going Down To Margate, London Girls, and with the audience rocking and happily chanting ‘I Don’t Care’ to the Sideboard Song, Chas and Dave went out on a good old Cockney knees up high.
