Comedian, writer, broadcaster and all round top bloke Hardeep Singh Kholi is a bit of a whizz in the kitchen.

He demonstrated this with great aplomb when he made it to the finals of the first series of Celebrity Master Chef.

And though he didn’t win - he claims his summer pudding was tampered with - he very soon turned his cooking skills to good use in a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show.

This touring production - The Nearly Naked Chef - extends the idea and finds Hardeep cooking on stage while talking about life, food, the universe and the occasional drawbacks to being a tubby, short-sighted, Glaswegian Sikh with a penchant for pink turbans.

He also talks the audience through his recipes for fish curry, dahl and chutney and then shares the dishes with them at the end of the show.

Engaging, gently humorous and surprisingly instructive, it was a charming evening that included some great anecdotes along with excellent advice for the culinarily minded.

But then Hardeep is not only an expert but a passionate trencherman. A man who loves food, any food, so much that he waxes lyrical about the joys of the snail porridge and bacon and egg ice-cream served by his chum Heston Blumenthal.
