ROCK, pop, and cockney - and whatever else takes his fancy. That's the incomparable Joe Brown, who once again packed out the Regent for his superb musicianship, excellent selection of material, and - despite actually now living up west in Henley on Thames - his ever ebullient East End of London humour.

Though he could, no doubt, perform as a one man band with his parade of guitars, mandolins, ukeleles, banjo and electric fiddle, Joe came with a top rate backing group, which included his son Pete, who has inherited his father's fretwork skills, the two of them, Joe on banjo and Pete on accoustic guitar, opening the show with Duelling Banjos.

Joe's other instrumental highlights included his mandolin renditions of the frenetic Jewish dance tune Hava Nagila, and the beautiful contrasting Italian Wedding Waltz.

There were old favourites like Sea Of Heartbreak, Picture Of You, and I'm Henry The Eighth I Am, which was given a right-royal Rock and Roll update.

His numerous tributes included Buddy Holly's Well Alright, an inspired tempo changing version of U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, and That's The Way It Goes, for his old friend the late George Harrison.

For the encore Joe on ukelele with I'll See You In My Dreams, was superb.
