THE ever-so-slightly eccentric Michelle Nova conducts her beautiful troupe of singers wonderfully, and this intimate evening of music, flowing chronologically, was heartily enjoyed by the small gathering at the castle.

From a Newfoundland folk song to composer James D'Angelo's rather impressive debut of The Lamb, the songs got better and better.

Standing in for Anne McCloy, Rachel Scivier's Dido's Lament was very well delivered, and Anne Terkelsen's Non So Più fantastically expressive.

Three Little Maids was great fun, as was the crazy Cat Duet, a treat I'd never heard before, while Su Convy's We'll Gather Lilacs was deeply moving.

So, too, was the ladies' rendition of Clapton's Tears in Heaven - a beautiful song made even more beautiful.

Accompanied perfectly by pianist Christine Langton, this superb evening drew to a close with a wonderful, and I think unexpected, finale of Rhythm of Life.
