It's second time lucky for Jamie T and the crowd who have sold out the O2 tonight.

After an aborted attempt earlier in the year it looked and sounded as though every single person in the venue was in the mood to make sure they enjoyed every last second of this evening.

A pretty sparse stage set up left nothing to detract from the delivery of a set songs from all four albums covering a span of nine years (including a well publicised five year break).

Looking around me the crowd were an obvious split of pre and post break age groups, which was great to see.

The older (ish) fans have remained loyal and the younger ones have been keen enough to not only absorb the new stuff but have obviously delved back into the past to discover albums released when they must have been barely teenagers.

Tracks from Panic Prevention, Kings & Queens, Carry on the Grudge and latest offering Trick were all received equally well with Jamie's lyrics nearly drowned out by the crowd throughout the gig.

When the opening bars of Sheila rang out the band could have gone home and left the crowd to lift the roof off the place on their own.

He carries his influences onto the stage with him and tonight's gig could well have taken place in that golden period between 76-77 when there were still some decent punk bands around.

In fact Trick has been produced by Mick Jones of The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite, which was collaboration just waiting to happen.

For someone who has spoken about his difficulty dealing with the attention that comes with his chosen profession it must be quite a balancing act to give a piece of yourself every night to a crowd that obviously love what you do but still retain enough of a distance to be able to carry on doing what you do.

Still, as has been proved by some of the best performers around, a bit of tension and edge is no bad thing.

There was little sign of any distance between the stage and the crowd tonight in fact just the opposite, he’s not a great talker but he did make a point of thanking the crowd a number of times.

On tonight’s showing and based on the turnout he could easily be playing larger venues so it will be interesting to see where he goes next, but wherever it is I will definitely make a point of being there.
