SYNTH sounds, a crop of the coolest hipsters in town and some of the catchiest tunes on the radio.

That's the recipe, it seems, needed to make one sell-out gig at the O2 Academy Bournemouth, starring four-piece band and 2013 festival favourites, The 1975.

Blasted out into the huge crowd for the group's first-ever headline tour were tracks such as The City, Chocolate and the song-du-jour, Girls.

Alternative/indie rock is having a moment and Matt Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel and Ross MacDonald, collectively known as The 1975, appear to have arrived on the music scene at just the right time.

With these men, there are no showy costumes or focussing on fancy stage lighting, just a monochrome theme to the staging, which matches their self-titled debut album released last year.

It was a great evening of entertainment, with support from Wolf Alice and The Neighbourhood and I feel that the band was shown off at their best in a venue such as the O2 Academy Bournemouth.
