The BIC's Windsor Hall has been transformed into an underwater kingdom, with a coral palace and a host of colourful creatures for its spectacular new show, Aquaria (August 6-24).

Aquaria is the goddess of the deep, who has invited the four elements of earth, air, fire and water to her palace to demonstrate their strengths - and here's where the spectacle begins.

Her watery subjects display their talents through a series of amazing aerial acrobatics, fire-juggling and feats of strength.

Acrobats plunge from ribbons, stopping just short of the earth, while a band of masked drummers beat perfectly in time.

As a female performer danced, her head adorned with a burning crown and her dress aflame, we watched intrigued as a giant goldfish bowl was moved towards the stage.

This would house mine and my daughter's favourite performance of the show - the water ballet, featuring a graceful dancer who performs amazing gymnastics, plunging again and again into the shallow, glass bowl, before breaking the surface, unscathed.

As the story unfolded we learned that Aquaria has used the strengths of all the elements to create the world's most beautiful pearl, Dana.

But Dana's beauty attracts the greed of pirates and a fierce battle ensues in the underwater kingdom.

Who will prevail?

If you want to know you will have to make your own voyage to Aquaria.
