Formed only two years ago the Strypes have come a long way in their short time together. From playing on Jools Holland to playing with Paul Weller and a sold out stop off at The Old Firestation in-between they are catching people’s attention and tonight’s gig showed why.

They play a brand of Rhythm and Blues that was all new to the younger crowd at the front and reminded the older ones at the back of a youth spent listening to The Jam and The Who. They hit the stage running and it was fast and furious from start to finish squeezing 16 songs into a set that lasted barely 50 minutes.

With original songs such as new single Blue Collar Jane mixed in with covers of CC Rider and Jessie Hills Ooh Poo Par Doo there was enough there to keep the crowd happy and make them want to hear more of this exciting young band.

These guys have made a great start but plenty of young bands with potential fall by the wayside, The Strypes might just be the ones that pull clear of the pack and make it.

Let’s hope so.
