Hot on the heels of the Osmond Brothers tour and fresh from Vegas we had the pleasure of Donny and Marie at the BIC this weekend.

I am sure there are plenty of people who would expect this to be a show built on pure nostalgia and to be fair they did play the hits from the seventies but this tour is about much more than that. This was a show covering fifty years of hits from Puppy Love to their latest single that went to number one in the states this year.

It covered songs from the Broadway musicals they have starred in and covers from across the years.

Much of the show consisted of solo sets from Donny or Marie tied together by duets accompanied by an excellent band and dancers. Donny looks and sings like someone half his age and as expected had the mainly female crowd in the palm of his hand so it was up to Marie to provide the surprises.

And it was the variety in her voice and choice of songs that did just that, from a cover of Run DMC’s Walk This Way to songs from The King and I she demonstrated a talent that most singers can only dream of.

Donny took his life in his hands and ventured into the crowd on two occasions asking the audience to stay in their seats so he could move around the venue. Of course the temptation proved too much for anyone within touching distance but he eventually managed to escape pretty much in one piece.

He also invited fans onto the stage for a hug and photo providing a moment that they will never forget.
This show could actually be summed up in two words 'PURE ENTERTAINMENT' and that’s why they have stayed at the top of their chosen profession for nearly fifty years.

They have a work ethic that would put many to shame and they know what the fans want, and of course they songs that remind the majority of the crowd of times when the most important things in their lives were the next Osmond’s single and posters on their bedroom walls.

As I said earlier it’s not all about nostalgia but a little bit now and then.
