WHILE he’s not yet a household name, Greg Davies is instantly recognisable from his unfeasibly tall frame. Words can’t do justice when you see this 6ft 8ins stand-up striding around the stage.

You will most likely know Greg Davies as the psychotic head of sixth form, Mr Gilbert, in Channel 4’s The Inbetweeners. The former teacher found TV cult fame with the hit comedy about teenage angst.

The Inbetweeners is only mentioned once in passing during Davies hilarious lecture style show, but it does set the tone for the evening. The bulk of his routine is centred on the madness of growing up and his realisation that he is a middle-aged Inbetweener.

The show’s title comes from his mother saying to him when has done something stupid: “That’s not normal, love.” After which she leaves the room, giving him a view of the back of her head.

Famously close to his family, his father featured heavily in his last tour, so now it’s his mums turn. Slicker and more ambitious than his previous tour Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog, the oversized comedian charmed the Bournemouth audience with his painfully honest and funny material.

There were many unexpected big laughs during the show, not least a soundscape made up of his favourite sounds, such as breaking wind at a Holy Spanish festival. A memorable evening that will see Greg Davies stand tall as one of the most loved comedians on the circuit.
