Singer Avril Lavigne has revealed she’s been suffering from Lyme disease.
In an exclusive interview with American celebrity magazine, People, she’s revealed she’s been bedridden for the last five months.
She’s explained how she started feeling sick while away in Las Vegas last year where she was celebrating her 30th birthday.
She told the magazine: “I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed. My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know.”
According to NHS Choices, Lyme Disease is “a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks.”
Avril went on to say: “I had no idea a bug bite could do this. I was bedridden for five months. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”
“There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”
News of the singer having a ‘mystery illness’ broke in December last year, after a direct message on Twitter that she’d sent to a fan, was leaked.
She explained: “They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn’t feeling good.”
The star, who’s married to Nickelback front man, Chad Kroeger, has said she’s on the mend and will be releasing a new single in aid of the Special Olympics later in the month.
