HIGHLY acclaimed Brit-blues three-piece the Martin Harley Band return to Mr Kyps on Sunday as part of UK tour in support of new album, Drumrolls For Somersaults.
In keeping with the band’s idiosyncratic British Americana sound, the album melds swinging jazz and laidback country-folk with striking three-part harmonies and a good firm blues root. The album title is inspired by Martin’s life experiences of: “getting twisted in situations, being out of my depth and going slightly crazy with anticipation.”
Among the situations he speaks about are the year he lived in a car in Australia while teaching himself slide guitar; and riding an old Enfield motorbike around Mali and meeting and playing with some of the best musicians out there, including Bassekou Kouyate and Ali Farka Touré’s son, Vieux.
