SOUTH coast singing superstar and DJ Craig David is to play Bestival next month. The 34-year-old multi-platinum recording artist, who grew up in Southampton and rose to fame in 1999 when he featured on the single Re-Rewind by Artful Dodger.

His debut album, Born to Do It, was released in 2000, followed by five more studio albums, and he worked with a variety of artists such as Tinchy Stryder, Kano, Jay Sean, Rita Ora and Sting.

David's first single, Fill Me In, topped the UK chart and was the first of a string of four Top 10 singles from his debut album which eventually sold more than eight million copies worldwide, earning multi-platinum status in more than 20 countries. The singer-songwriter was nominated for no fewer than 12 Brit Awards - three times for Best British Male - and twice received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

The singer was working towards an engineering degree at Southampton City College when music success changed his plans completely. Craig will present a 90-minute DJ set at Bestival with his live vocal throughout known as TS5. TS5 started out as the most exclusive pre-party in Miami hosted by Craig at his penthouse home, Tower Suite 5.

Craig's sets combine massive old skool anthems from R&B, swing to garage into current chart topping house hits. Bestival organisers have announced that the Shy FX's Party on the Moon Bollywood takeover - which will be the tent's closing party on Sunday, September 13, will feature sets from both Craig David and Mark Ronson.

Party on the Moon will see dancefloor lunacy provided by Shy FX going back to back with some very special guests, with microphone control courtesy of MC Stamina. Organisers promise “sublime moves on the ones and twos from chart-conquering musical polymath Mark Ronson, multi-platinum recording artist Craig David presenting his much admired TS5, the Leonine be-locked Lion Babe and Chloe Martini taking on Sinead Harnett.”

They add: “From old skool tear-ups to thoroughly modern floor spankers, Shy FX's Party on the Moon is a sure-fire celestial end to our Summer of Love that's not to be missed.”

Bestival runs at Robin Hill Country Park in the Isle Of Wight from September 10-13. Missy Elliott, Duran Duran and The Chemical Brothers will headline this year.
