HAILED as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Richard Thompson, pictured, is the latest addition to the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival (27-30 August) and will be headlining the Friday night of the much-anticipated summer event.

The folk-rock pioneer and founder member of Fairport Convention will join a stellar line-up that also includes Chris Difford, Justin Currie, Kathryn Tickell, Megson, Martha Tilston & the Scientists, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin and the ever-popular Moulettes.

The popular family-friendly music event is located on the A351 (Valley Road) between Corfe Castle and Swanage. Full weekend tickets are available with 20% discount for local residents within the BH19 and BH20 postcode.

That means that the current super-early bird price of £90 is reduced to £72 for locals, for a full weekend of great music. The Purbeck Valley Folk Festival is brought to you by father and daughter team Paul and Catherine Burke, curators of the award-winning Purbeck Folk Festival.

“We are over the moon to have one of the all-time greats of folk music headline for us. We are also very pleased to get him as a solo singer-guitarist, making this a very rare opportunity for fans,” says Catherine Burke.

Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the 60s, Richard Thompson and his band mates virtually invented British Folk Rock. Thompson’s massive body of work includes over 40 albums, many Grammy nominations, an Ivor Novello and an OBE.

A wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s music including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, REM, Del McCoury, Bob Dylan, Los Lobos, David Byrne, Don Henley and many others.

Tickets are selling fast for this year’s festival, which takes place on 27-30 August. Weekend tickets (Fri-Sun) include free camping and are on sale now at just £90 (youth £45, children over three £10). A limited number of Festival day tickets will also be available.
