GIFTED musician Miranda Sykes makes a return to the Bournemouth Folk Club on Sunday with Rex Preston.
Sykes has performed for the Bournemouth Folk Club many times, both under her own name and accompanying other favourites.
With an enviable pedigree, Miranda is known as the stand-out bass player and spine-tingling vocalist who has brilliantly enriched the Show of Hands sound for the past decade while former Scoville Units band member Rex is recognised as one of the finest young mandolin players in the UK.
On tour, Miranda and Rex will be showcasing their 2013 album Sing a Full Song as well as material from their next album, due out later this year. Produced by Preston and a painstaking year in the making the 12-track Sing a Full Song is a slick mix of new arrangements of traditional songs, inventive covers of contemporary singer/songwriter material and two songs written especially for them by the brilliant Boo Hewerdine.
Since its release, the band have moved on from their folk duo image, and evolved into a hard hitting acoustic band, selling out UK and European tours and headlining some of the biggest festivals across the world.
- Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston appears on Sunday, March 1 at the Bournemouth Folk Club, Ocean View Hotel, East Cliff. Tickets can be purchased on the door, or online: bournemouthfolkclub.com
