FRESH from a late-night headline slot with The Happy Mondays at Dorchester’s Forever Sun festival, backing singer Rowetta Satchell enjoyed Monday morning in the sunshine of Ashley Cross in Poole.

The band, known for their influence on the Manchester dance scene in the late 1980s and early 90s, appeared alongside iconic 1970s punk rock band The Buzzcocks, former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, noughties chart toppers Toploader and the Dub Pistols during the festival last weekend.

Soul singer Rowetta made the flying visit to Lower Parkstone to publicise her solo appearance at next month’s eagerly awaited Party in the Park festival at Ashley Cross on August 23-24.

Rowetta will be performing a very special club classics and disco set.

The creative team behind the popular event have chosen all the local bands, DJs and sound systems involved on their musical merits with a diverse range of programming that you would expect to hear at a carnival.

Some of the acts include Afro Tallawah, Pachango and Dubheart.

The local clubscene is also represented with legendary club night Bump N Hustle, Bar So Sound System and underground dance music promoters Shake.

Each will have their own Sound System show on the main stage over the weekend with full carnival show, performers, MCs and musicians.

Not to mention The Random Acts Club VIP enclosure, with access all areas including a back stage green room bar in a magnificent Moroccan circus style marquee with VIP tables, waitress service and random arts performances going on inside.

£20 per day including glass of bubbly or £36 for weekend ticket. All this, and Notting Hill legends DJ Norman Jay and DJ Jazzie B of Soul II Soul will be headlining each day on the main stage.

This year’s Party in the Park chosen charity is Lewis Manning Hospice.

There will also be the usual eclectic mix of local foods, drink, craft stalls and a number of live bands and entertainment.

Tickets are selling fast for this event and there are still more acts to be announced. Please visit partyintheparkpoole.com for more information.
