With George RR Martin apparently confusing naptime with book-writing, we lucky gaming types are given a wee door into a household only briefly alluded to in book five – that of House Forrester.

A bunch of wood-obsessed folk tight with House Stark before old Neddy lost his bonce, the brilliantly horrific Boltons come knocking at the Forresters’ carved entrance offering their very special brand of terror.

Taking place right at the start of the Red Wedding, this first episode of six neatly offers a new tale while retaining large chunks of everyone’s favourite Thrones cast members. Tyrion, Cersei Lannister, Margaery Tyrell and Ramsey Snow all feature, with the latter in particular splendidly reprising his nastiness from the telly.

Gameplay mechanics follow the typical TellTale routine (those familiar with The Walking Dead series will be right at home) with prompt button presses or joystick movements required outside of the conversation selections, many of which will change how the story progresses.

GoT isn’t the most fluid of TellTale’s adventures, and the graphics are more than a smidge on the blocky side for current-generation consoles, but for those starved of any fresh GoT adventures, this tale of House Forrester is welcome nourishment, made tastier by the involvement of the TV series’ cast.

And one can never have too much Peter Dinklage.
