Beginner? Well alright, if you say so.
New Fifa titles have a nifty habit of rummaging through the data saved by older versions and taking an educated guess at a suitable difficulty level. World Cup Brazil's recommendation here hinted that perhaps EA Sports had ramped up the difficulty for the globe's most spiffy tournament. Either that or I'm a far worse player than I thought.
A twenty-three to nil victory later and it's apparent that neither is correct.
Nevertheless, the computerised simulation of football marches on unabated, and despite the fact that Fifa 14 still has that new-game smell, we've got a whole new title on our hands.
Your typical Fifa nut will be right at home. Save for a little samba soundtrack and suitably cup-drunk crowds, the arrangement is familiar.
Tweaks involve a little cheating, such as moving the defensive wall while the ref isn't looking, and a simplified controller approach for those unfamiliar with or utterly baffled by past Fifa titles.
Guiding New Zealand through to an astonishingly unlikely run is, of course, a beautiful joy, but whether you'll be quite so amused post-tournament is another matter.
As a cup appetiser, however, there's little better.
