SHOPPERS across Purbeck will be able to park for free in the run-up to Christmas, in a bid to help retailers boost sales.
Chambers of commerce have teamed up with Purbeck District Council and Wareham Town Council to offer free parking at a number of sites from Monday, December 22, up to and including Christmas Eve.
Purbeck District Council’s economy and infrastructure spokesman Cllr Peter Wharf said: “With Purbeck’s mix of High Street brands and superb independent shops, free parking gives residents that extra incentive to shop locally this year.
“We are also delighted to be working with chambers of trade and commerce to support our local traders.”
The seven car parks included in the three-day parking scheme up to Christmas Eve include:
- Bonnets Lane (East), Wareham
- Bonnets Lane (West), Wareham
- Connegar Lane, Wareham
- Rempstone Centre, Church Street, Wareham
- Stretche Road, Wareham
- West Street, Corfe Castle
- Howards Lane, Wareham
Swanage Town Council is also offering free car parking in its car parks every Saturday during December, and on the first Saturday of January. However, this does not include on-street meter parking.
