RUTH ELEANOR McMANUS

McMANUS RUTH ELEANOR (1938 – 2017) Loved life. And never grew old. Miss Ruth Eleanor Urquhart came into the world on the 8th March 1938, treasured first daughter to Alexander ‘Sandy’ Urquhart and Ellen Jane (Bray) Urquhart. Ruth was born at the Redhill County Hospital, Edgware, Middlesex, later moving to Gillingham Kent in 1944. Ruth attended Gillingham Byron Road County Primary School from 1948 to 1950, and it was here that Ruth first met her future husband, Michael McManus. They married on the 21st December 1957, when Ruth was 19 and Michael was 20 years old. Michael was in the RAF and they spent the next 20 years moving from posting to posting, including Nairobi, Cyprus, Newquay, Rutland, Cambridge, Lincoln and Cheltenham. They made their last move in 1980 to West Parley in Dorset. Ruth started working at the County Court in Poole in 1980, staying until she retired in 1998. Ruth always enjoyed playing scrabble and cards and, once she had retired, joined the Ferndown U3A and took up Bridge, playing numerous times a week. Ruth had a knack of making the best of every situation, had a sparkle in her eyes and never complained, even in the last few months when she was very poorly. Ruth kept diaries from 1958 to the present, which is the most wonderful gift to her family. She used her diaries to note her many adventures, and those of her family and friends. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She embraced life and everyone she met. Ruth’s shining light will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind her husband, Michael who is sadly suffering with Alzheimer’s, her two children Susan and Chris, and their partners, Philip and Ann, plus her six grandchildren whom she adored, Liz, John, Ellen, Mary, Sally and Loz. "Actually the best gift you could have given her is a lifetime of adventure" Lewis Carroll ~ Alice in Wonderland Her Funeral Service will take place at Bournemouth Crematorium on Friday 31st March at 2.45pm. The family would welcome any donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or if you prefer to send flowers these can be sent directly to our Funeral Directors – A.E. Joliffe and Son 17 Victoria Road, Ferndown, Dorset BH22 9HT Tel: 01202 872050. All are welcome to pay their respects to Ruth, dress code can be black or colours as per personal preference.

I'm sad at Ruth's departure to her new post in the Here-After. Ruth was endearing and loving to us. God loves us and we love Ruth too.
Our condolences to Michel and family,
~Cliff and Alan~
