AFC Bournemouth: Koeman will lead Southampton at Dean Court

Bournemouth Echo: DEAN COURT DATE: New Southampton Ronald Koeman DEAN COURT DATE: New Southampton Ronald Koeman

CHERRIES will come up against Ronald Koeman in pre-season after the Dutch legend was today named the new boss of Southampton.

The 51-year-old, who as a player won Euro 88 as well as European Cups with PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, will be in the dugout on July 25 when Saints visit Dean Court (7.45pm).

It will be Koeman’s second match in charge of Cherries’ south coast rivals since replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who left for Tottenham in May.

The former defender has been joined at St Mary's by older brother Erwin, who has been named assistant, while Jan Kluitenberg will be an assistant and a fitness coach.

During a 14-year managerial career, Koeman has won the Dutch title with both Ajax and PSV and the Copa del Rey at Valencia, while he has also coached Vitesse, Benfica and AZ Alkmaar.

"From my very first meeting with (executive director) Les Reed, I could see clearly that this was the right club for me,” said Koeman.

“We share the same philosophy of football and the same belief in how to develop the club.

"The opportunity to continue the development of this famous football club was simply too good to turn down. I cannot wait to get started."

The Cherries, having played against twenty plus players, playing in the current World Cup in 2014 in pre-season friendlies, FA Cup or the Championship should not be worried about the imploding south coast team further along the coast, who we are playing in a pre-season friendly prior to the start of the 2014-2015 season. It will take a while for Koeman's style of play and any new players to bed in.
I am thrilled how far our club has come in the last 18months and that we are competing with the so called "superstars" of the World Cup. Amazing !!!.

The only important thing here is that Southampton now have a new manager, ergo they can now get on with selling Lallana and giving us our 25%.

Why the thumbs down on an article praising the strength of The Cherries competing last season against a plethora of current World Cup "Stars". I can only assume the thumbs down came from disgruntled fans of " The South Coast Giants" (yawn!!!) LOL. who have never had the honour of playing Real Madrid if only in a friendly. How many of that team are now playing in the World Cup for their respective countries ?. UTC.
