AFC Bournemouth: Striker Lewis Grabban confident Cherries will hang on to top stars

LEWIS Grabban believes Cherries' financial muscle can fend off Premier League pursuers of the club's top talent ahead of an assault on the Championship's top six.

Top marksman Grabban, whose 22 league goals this season reset the club's individual scoring record in the second tier, is one of several players to be linked with moves to the top flight over the summer.

The 26-year-old frontman, subject of a failed swoop by league rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in January, has been touted by the national press as a £3million target for former club Crystal Palace, managed by ex-Cherries boss Tony Pulis.

However, after revealing that he had no knowledge of any approach from the Eagles, Grabban insisted the backing of Russian owner Maxim Demin was capable of dispelling the notion that Cherries’ stars were ripe for the picking should the big boys come knocking.

Grabban told the Daily Echo: “People might look at where we have come from and the stadium and see us as a small club but we have a wealthy owner so it doesn’t look like we need to sell players.

"We have proved that by rewarding people when they have done well so I don't think any interest is a worry to the club.

“Outsiders might look and end up underestimating us and there's nothing wrong with that, you just go out there, try to excel and prove those people wrong.

“I think we have proved we are more than capable of beating the best sides in this division and we are looking at getting into the play-offs as a minimum target for next season.

“We had a hiccup and that was the only reason we missed out this time. We already have a great squad at Bournemouth and with a few more additions we can definitely push for promotion and progress the club.

“The dream would be to keep all the players and while these things don't always happen, hopefully we can keep this squad together because we have something special building.”

On the link with a return to Selhurst Park, Grabban added: “The thing with speculation is you never know if it is true or not. If teams from the Premier League are interested in me then that is flattering.

“As a player, it is a compliment to be linked with other clubs.

Everyone has ambitions to play in the Premier League, I think it is the same for every footballer but at the moment they are just rumours.”

Sorry to disappoint you lot but Lallana tweeted he wants to progress with the South Coast Giants! The new 5 year plan is being formulated and he is desperate to help take this great club to the next level. Tip, don't believe everything you read in the press.

To reassure you guys, SFC will not be bidding for any of your squad, especially not your defenders.

Kind regards.

That's a lie I know Ad's he hasn't got a Twitter account only Instagram. Liverpool are now 1/5 for him to join before end of transfer window 2014 think that says it all. Think the Fee will be £27 million with add ons great money for both clubs.

Why would Grabbs want to leave a club that ;
- has one of the most intelligent, likable and dynamic managers in the game
- with the most exciting squad in the Championship
- playing the most exciting football in the Championship
- are highly likely to finish top 6 at worst next season (think of the medal!), though the national media don’t know that – yet!
- based around Grabs, who is the star player at the club (thanks in no small part to the focus on playing around him)
- with an owner who has substantial cash and has demonstrated he is prepared to spend it on the club
- a loyal and growing fan base that is extremely supportive of the players come what may (remember the away support at Tranmere, Reading, Watford, etc)
- playing in a wonderful and improving environment (ground, training facilities, etc),
- based in the most beautiful area in the UK
- where he is pretty well certain to be the first name on the team sheet every week.
- Oh, and who have the contacts to lay on friendly matches against the likes of Real Madrid !!

Perhaps I am being naïve but somehow a move to a club
- based in a miserable run down area of London,
- who will be among the favourites for relegation and a season of misery,
- playing in front of a crowd who believe they are a big club and should therefore be top 6 (and therefore likely to punish errors),
- for a manager who is renowned for dull, uninspiring football (though the legacy team he has acquired have performed beyond themselves – and may themselves be targets of the real big clubs!)
- where he will almost certainly find himself warming the bench most of the time
Doesn’t somehow seem compelling to me!

I know the club owes a lot to mitchell because he made things happen that nobody else could or did (all be it mostly due to eddie howes sheer brilliance). Mitchell also did very well out of the club and got a 3 million return on a fifty quid investment (so i heard). My point is 7.5 million more than double his 50% share was brought for. Anyway it's great if Lallana gets sold and speculation is very high at the moment.

they might do with steve cook, he played a blinder for brighton (a much bigger and better club, in a much better area) when they knocked you out of the FA cup last season or the season before and he is twice the player he was then. He wouldn't leave the sandy beaches of Bournemouth to go to St Mary's anyway.

agree, he is very good player, but a bad character and the good atmosphere/attitude in the squad is one of EH's top priorities (it seems). Also, unless Grabban leaves, which I can't see happening then we still have Grabs, Kermorgant, TK & Pitman, with young Josh O'hanlon who could come through the ranks next season.

I hate to be the "spectre at the feast" , but don't foget the Fair Play Rules and the need to comply - £5 -7M from a Adam Lanana transfer might just help there. Then too Grabbham's last words were "we all want to play in the Premiership". Having said that , given the plans to increase capacity to 25,000 for the 2015/16 Season does shew Max Demin's commitment to the Club on a long term basis, that wont come cheap since I doubt whether he would spend this amount of money without owning the ground and ways to finance the Club's development will, no doubt be found. I do expect to see the Club retain most of it's better players and bring in 2/3 players during the Summer and another 4/5 to leave as Eddie tidies things up..

Why would Lallana wish to stay at a little club like scummer's when he will be playing champion's league next season.

A lot depends on whether the Manager stays with the Saints or moves on, if he moves on then Adam Lallana and Shaw will probably do so as well, Lallana is said to be desperate to play in the Champions League, something that he is unlikely to achieve with the Saints, the Premiership is all about money ,unfortunately the Saints just aren't rich enough.

DONT bother to contact Eddie Howe next week when Poxyteamo does a runner to Spurs. He will only give you the finger, just like last time.!!!.
Despite his current plight, i would like to think Lallana has got some ambition to play for a big club one day.!!!

What plans to increase capacity? I keep hearing these rumours but have yet to read any articles or direct quotes on it. Hope it's true though.more bums on seats means more revenue.

According to the Sun today, Stains are going to "RAID" our club next week and make off with our prized management team... Good grief, i know the sun reporters aren't exactly renowned for their accuracy, but this is really pushing the boundries of fantasy. Why would Eddie & Jason swap a promotion push for a relegation dog fight next season.????

The Chairman said several weeks ago that the South Stand would be retained for another Season but plans were in hand to develop the Ground and increase capacity to 25,000 , we are turning people away at the moment - in particular supporters of visiting teams, it seems. .

Seems like a good idea, 25000 would be plenty enough even if we ever got promoted.
We will never move, due to the small rent we pay at Dean Court.
Parking would be the only problem.

We could pay off our debt to below the limit set at 8million(?) and to break even with Adam Lallana being sold. He is needed by the 'bigger clubs' so it's a dead cert, that he is a shoe-in to replace Steve Gerrard. Even United want in... That is our luck and our 'Get out of Jail card!'

OR...

.. we buy our way into the Prem and do a WBA and Norwich and keep nicking the parachute payments! Cynical? Not at all! ( £50million for failure, fantastic!)

I really can't wait for next season!

You are both missing a couple of points. He grew up near to the Palace ground and was in the youth set up from a young age. Chances are his family still live in the area and he would feel at home.
Still I'm not sure Palace would be interested as we already have Dwight Gayle proving himself at prem level.
