Boxing: Weaver set for sixth professional bout in Bournemouth

First published in Sport by

FERNDOWN boxer Iain Weaver has announced plans to fight in Bournemouth for the first time in his professional career.

The 23-year-old’s manager Gary Hyde is in the throes of setting up a bout at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) on Saturday, March 15 on the back of Weaver's five straight victories in the pro ranks.

After beating Damian Lawniczak on his professional debut in London, the 'Blessed One' floored Karihi Tehei within the first round in the United States.

A points victory over Michelino Di Mari followed before he took down Moroccan Hassan Elyatouti inside 70 seconds in Cataluna, Spain. Brazilian veteran Edilson Rio was Weaver's latest victim last month.

His success has been tempered by an ongoing licensing battle with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), with Weaver forced to fight abroad or on UK bills with foreign licences.

The German Boxing Association are set to sanction the BIC event.
