Non-league: Cuss insists Wimborne can bounce back
DEFIANT boss Steve Cuss insists Wimborne Town are capable of reviving their faltering play-off bid.
The Magpies slipped further adrift in the promotion race following a 2-1 home loss to Bridgwater Town today.
Jon Blake fired the hosts into a 24th-minute lead at Cuthbury but Wimborne were then made to pay for not extending their advantage as the visitors fought back.
Toby Osman levelled for Bridgwater on 52 minutes before Joe Bushin completed a rapid turnaround by netting what proved to be the winner three minutes later.
Wimborne's third successive Southern League defeat left Cuss's men in 11th position and nine points behind the Division One South & West play-off zone.
But speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Evesham (3pm), Cuss remained adamant the Magpies could still put together the necessary results to climb the table.
He told the Daily Echo: “The results of late have left us adrift of where we want to be and we have now got a massive second half of the season. We have to win a lot of games.
“In this league, there are a lot of teams in that middle pack who are chasing the play-offs. I feel we are capable of going on that run and it is up to us now to get on that run and get ourselves up to the top end of the league.”
Giving his verdict on the Bridgwater match, Cuss added: “We were 1-0 up at half-time and their goalkeeper had made three or four very good saves. We were very much on top in the first half and that continued in the opening five minutes of the second half but we didn't get a second goal.
“Then they scored twice and that changed the whole complexion of the game. We had a couple of chances late on and we hit the post in injury time but it wasn't to be. We had enough of the ball in good areas to have created something.”
Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Oliver, Wilson, Middleton (Burton-Hemmings, 84), Blake, Maybury, Sainsbury (Webb, 70), Kemble, Gamble, Griffin. Unused subs: Costello, Roast, Ackerman (g/k).
