A YOUNG lifeguard encouraged children to perform sex acts on themselves over Skype in exchange for computer games, a court has heard.

Adam Tanner, of Dale Valley Road in Poole, was just 18 when he abused two boys under the age of 13 whom he had met through his work.

Police were alerted after a complaint was made about inappropriate text messages sent to one of the children.

The 20-year-old has now been warned that he faces a prison sentence after admitting the offences.

Heather Jackson, prosecuting, said the defendant became friends with some of the boys at the leisure centre where he worked and began to exchange texts with them.

After police became aware of messages sent to one of the boys, Tanner’s computer was seized.

“It was found that he had been having Skype and video camera messages and conversations had been recorded by him,” Ms Jackson said.

“There were eight films of Skype conversations where he had encouraged boys to perform sex acts in front of him with a web cam.”

The prosecutor added that there was an “element of grooming” to the offences.

“The conversations had built up over some time, and part of the conversations involved him offering computer games in exchange,” she said.

Tanner admitted two counts of causing or inciting a boy under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, three of causing a child to watch an image of sexual activity, and seven of possessing indecent images of children at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was committed to Bournemouth Crown Court for sentence after being told by magistrates that their powers were too limited.

The defendant, who is on bail, will next appear before a judge on August 29 at 10am.

I get your point and why is he out on bail,no matter what restrictions may have been applied there is no reason not to have locked him up pending his next appearance,he's admitted his offences, what is the problem?

Anyone that could think of engaging with a child at all in any sort of sexual matter is not safe to be in public and he shouldn't of been granted bail! It's sick and I'm furious that we can say some perverted crimes are not as bad or more acceptable than others so so so wrong! Let's hope he doesn't walk by me in the street.

When you say 'so many' there are now 7 billion people on this planet, what percentage are you working to?

The media doesn't report breaking news today 99.99% of the population didn't sexually abuse a child.

It's called observation bias.

This sort of stuff is really sad. I hope the victims get the psychological support they need because to have your sexuality violated so young destroys you and leaves you at the mercy of a whole range of mental health problems. Sexual abuse in childhood has been shown to be linked into a variety of personality disorders which, and here I can speak from experience because I'm currently going through one right now, are insanely difficult to treat and understand for both health care professionals and the people who are effected with these kinds of illnesses. I know what it's like to be violated too and it never, never leaves you.

Saying that, I also hope the perpetrator gets help because he's clearly in a bad place too. I don't believe anybody chooses to be attracted to children and to realise that you are attracted to them must be incredibly destructive. Yeah, he deserves to be punished but he deserves to have the chance to be rehabilitated too. He's 20 years old, we've still got a chance with him.
