FUN in the sun is back, with the first of Poole Tourism’s Summer Breeze on the Quay bursting into life on Thursday.

There will be a nostalgic 1930s and 1940s theme to the first of the free six weekly Thursday night events which run until the end of August, from 7pm to 10pm.

Visitors will be able to revel in vintage music, clothes and memorabilia stalls that form the backdrop to an evening of family entertainment with live music and street entertainment, ending with a fantastic firework display.

John Corderoy (pictured) managing director of Breeze Volkswagen, said: “This is the 11th year we have sponsored Summer Breeze and we are incredibly proud of the event.

“To see it grow and become such a key part of Poole’s summer programme giving pleasure to so many visitors and local people has been just fantastic.

“And with so many great acts over the next six weeks, 2014 is due to be a truly vintage year.”

The first night includes acts from Real Vintage including crooner Karl Stokes, there will be 30s and 40s classics from female soloist Memphis Belle, harmonies from duo Scarlet Swing and 1940s songstresses The Land Girls complete with authentic costumes and choreography.

Vintage fashion will be on show thanks to South Coast Gems and Looks we Love.

There will be the chance to brush up on circus skills with Jamie Jigsaw’s Circus Workshop, rides for children, bouncy castle, climbing wall and hula hoop fun.

The Thistle Hotel end of the quay will play host to a ‘celebration of cycling’ with the chance to try out bikes, take part in the Bling Your Bike competition and marvel at the Animal Mountain Bike Display.

Bruce Grant-Braham, chairman of Poole Tourism Partnership said: “Over the years many local people have grown up with Summer Breeze, so much so that it is now an essential part of their summer.”

The evening, part of Poole’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South, ends with a spectacular firework display over the harbour at 10pm.
