INVESTIGATIONS continue into the traffic accident that claimed the life of an elderly woman earlier this week.

The pensioner, an 83-year-old pedestrian, died in hospital hours after being involved in the collision with a car outside Tesco Express, Herbert Avenue, Poole, on Wednesday evening.

Police, who have not yet released the woman’s name, have confirmed her age and that she is from the Poole area. Her next of kin have been informed.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to two people who talked to a member of staff at the Tesco store just after the collision.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene of the incident, near the junction of Stanfield Road, around 7.45pm, before being taken to hospital.

Police later confirmed she died from her injuries at 12.40am on Thursday. (Feb 20) In the aftermath of the tragedy, shocked residents spoke to the Daily Echo. Mick Marshall, 72, who lives nearby said: “It has been an accident waiting to happen.

“It is a nightmare at that junction and I have had one or two near misses myself.”

The car involved was a white Renault Megane. Police, who have appealed for witnesses to contact them, say no arrests have been made.

Sergeant Nikki Burt, of Dorset Police’s traffic unit, said: “As part of the investigation I am appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“In particular I would like to speak with two people who spoke to a member of staff at the Tesco Express store immediately after the collision. I believe they may be witnesses and can help us ascertain exactly what happened.

“I urge them, and anyone who has information about this incident, to call the police on 101 urgently.”

An inquest into the death of the elderly woman has not yet been opened an adjourned.

Witnesses should call 101 quoting incident number 19:415.
