NATIONAL Park chiefs are out to honour people who have made an outstanding contribution to the task of preserving the New Forest’s unique landscape.

The National Park Authority (NPA) is seeking nominations for four awards that will be presented at the Daily Echo-backed New Forest Show on July 30.

The categories are Young Farmer/Commoner of the Year, Best Supporter of Local Produce, Sustainability Champion and Best Agricultural Building Designer.

Anyone can nominate a friend, family member or colleague between now and April 30.

An NPA spokesman said: “This year’s awards scheme builds on a successful 2013 edition, which culminated in the Earl and Countess of Wessex presenting the Young Farmer and Commoner and Best Supporter of Local Produce awards in the main show ring at the New Forest Show.”

Jane Overall, owner of Setley Ridge farm shop near Brockenhurst, was named Best Supporter of Local Produce in 2013.

She said: “It was a fantastic honour to be presented with last year’s award. At Setley Ridge we’re passionate about championing local produce and being recognised for our achievements was the icing on the cake.”

The NPA is running the scheme in partnership with the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), which has 34,000 members across the UK.

Robin Edwards, the CLA’s south east director, said: “The New Forest is unique and it’s essential that it has a thriving and profitable working rural economy to ensure our grandchildren will be able to enjoy it as we do today.”

NPA chief executive Alison Barnes added: ‘It’s vital we continue to support those at the heart of the living, working Forest.”

Nominations can be made online at newforestnpa.gov.uk/awards.

Great news. Honoring people who do a great job for us all, unlike some national awards.
