Poole’s Dolphin Centre manager urging shoppers to think local this Christmas

Bournemouth Echo: John Grinnell John Grinnell

THE manager of Poole’s shopping centre is reminding residents to think of their local retailers when shopping this Christmas.

John Grinnell who runs the Dolphin shopping centre, says that he is urging people to spare a thought for the high street shops and in particular, the independent shop owners, instead of heading straight to the internet.

In a further attempt to entice shoppers to Poole, many of the larger well known stores have introduced a click and collect service.

It not only allows people to have their item guaranteed in time for Christmas, rather than waiting for a delivery, but also helps high street brands fight back against the dominance of online retailers.

He said: “The internet retail revolution of click and collect has taken a surprising turn and is proving prosperous for the town centre.

He added: “This new service, along with the choice offered from smaller independent shops, and free car parking provides encouragement to entice people to visit Poole for their Christmas shopping this year.”

Some of the stores offering click and collect in Poole are: Marks & Spencer, BHS, New Look, Burton, Top Shop and Wilkinsons.

If you want us to “think local” when shopping, then stop expecting us to pay for the privilege of parking. How about a FREE Park and Ride? Maybe FREE parking all-day every-day throughout December and January in ALL Poole car parks, not just selected ones (I’m never sure what is considered a Town Centre Car Park and what isn’t) on random days, or so late in the evening that no-one wants to be out? And while you’re at it, encourage the council to get rid of all the double yellow lines that DON’T contribute to road safety or traffic flow, so we can park FREE On-Street. Then see if people are more inclined to “think local” or go out of town where ample parking is already free.

Local retailers
M&S, Wilkinsons, BHS.
Your missing a big trick, I would visit more for pleasure rather than neccesity if, for example, you utilised the ex cafe area on the 1st floor with a market for REAL local retailers, the old fashioned Butcher baker fruit and veg type.
