POLICE are appealing for information following an alleged armed robbery at a convenience shop in Wimborne.

Officers have arrested and charged one man following the incident at Leigh Park Stores on Gordon Road on Sunday 27 April at 3pm.

It is alleged the offender entered the shop wearing a hat and scarf to cover his face and demanded money while brandishing an axe. The staff gave him a quantity of cash and he left on foot.

Detective Constable Leo Glendon said officers were keen to speak with anyone who could assist their investigation.

He said: “The incident occurred in broad daylight and there were members of the public in the store at the time – I urge them, and any other witnesses, to come forward.

“The money has been recovered, however, the axe is still missing – we would like to hear from anyone who has discovered such an item in the locality.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 29:254. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
