A PEDESTRIAN was hit by a people carrier which drove off afterwards.

Police are hunting for the driver of the yellow-coloured vehicle following the hit and run, which took place at around 9.30am on Tuesday, July 19.

A man in his 50s from Wiltshire was walking along Bittles Green towards Shaftesbury when he was hit on the right arm by the wing mirror of the vehicle.

The car continued along the road toward Shaftesbury before the driver slammed on the brakes.

The driver then carried on, making no attempt to speak to the victim.

The man suffered swelling and bruising to his right elbow and shoulder.

PC Glen Caddy, of North Dorset police, called for anyone who saw such a vehicle in the area at the time to contact officers.

"I would particularly ask anyone who is aware of a people carrier with damage to its offside wing mirror to call police or contact Crimestoppers anonymously," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers via dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55160108264.
