The level crossing on Poole High Street was closed for over an hour this morning due to a signalling fault.

The barriers were closed from 9.30am leaving only the stairways and bridge for access.

At around 10.45am an engineer from Network Rail arrived and began to operate the gates manually.

Normal working resumed just before 11am, when the signalling problem had been resolved.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “We apologies to any pedestrians caught up in the disruption this morning.”

I loved it when the gates came down as a child and would wait quite happily watching the trains go past waving at them like mad!
Roll on 35 years it's the bane of my life now,I absolutely hate waiting at it especially as it seems to be down every 10 minutes now!
Funny how simple childhood enjoyment changes into driving me bonkers!

What do you suggest they do with the railway? its a crossing it has to be there. Why is Poole a "doss" hole because of the railway crossing?

Would it have been too difficult for a loudspeaker to be installed to let people know when something has gone wrong, or for someone from Network Rail to go to the crossing and explain that the barriers were likely to be down for a considerable time? Of course it would.

Why, in this electronic age. That all the train times aren't displayed on a screen? You would be able to decide then whether to wait or use the stairs.

If you can't see Poole town is a doss hole by now there's something wrong with you!
There are a thousand ideas that can be done with the crossing the only thing is it can't be moved . Pools council would spend the money so there's no point stating why or how
