YOUNG members of Bourne-mouth’s Coda Fiddle Orchestra played their hearts out at a special 75th birthday concert for their president Maurice Patterson.
The retired RAF Wing Commander and leading Bournemouth Rotarian, who has been a tireless supporter and fundraiser for the community music group since it was first established eight years ago, was treated to music from Vivaldi to Irish Folk at the town’s central library on Saturday.
Under their director, violinist Jack Maguire, the 40-strong ensemble, featuring youngsters aged from four to 18, delighted their guest, who has helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for a host of causes.
The Coda Fiddle is a participatory community music project based in Boscombe and works with children, young people and families across the borough.
It’s the only project of its kind in the UK and is almost entirely dependent on private donations.
President Maurice, who flew the legendary Vulcan aircraft in his military career, is also a trustee of the John Thornton Young Achievers’ Foundation.
