FIVE young people were injured, two seriously, in a horror crash near Bovington when a car flipped over on its side.

Those hurt included the 19-year-old female driver who broke her arm and had to be cut out of the car to avoid the risk of further injury.

A fleet of ambulances, firefighting crews and police were alerted to a remote spot in the early hours of today.

Police said the blue Toyota Yaris, registered to a woman from Poole, ended up on its side in a hedge after leaving Puddletown Road at Hyde near Gallows Hill. The crash was reported just after 1.15am.

Rescuers were at the scene for about three hours treating the injured, examining the scene and removing the vehicle.

Two of those injured were taken to hospital.

A Dorset Police spokesman said there were five people in the car. Apart from the driver there were three men aged 19, 20 and 24, and a girl aged 16.

She added: “This was a serious injury road traffic collision but none of the injuries were life threatening.

“It was reported at 1.17am by a member of the public as a car on its side in a hedge.

“The driver received serious arm injuries and the fire service took the roof off the car to release her.”

It is understood one of the male passengers was also seriously hurt and the other three had slight injuries.

South Western Ambulance said there were three casualties it described as 'walking wounded' and two others who were taken to hospitals in Dorchester and Poole.

A spokesman said two ambulances and three rapid response paramedic vehicles attended.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Wareham and Bere Regis were called to the scene.

A brigade spokesman said: “Hydraulic cutting gear was used to create space to assist the ambulance service with the release of a trapped female.

“Crews also assisted paramedics with the other casualties.”

Witnesses and anyone with information about the collision can contact Dorset Police on 101.

Councillor seeking action from highways team

District and county councillor for the area Peter Wharf is aware of incidents on the road and believes that generally there is a problem with vehicles going too fast for the conditions.

Speaking generally about the issue, he said: “The problem is with Puddletown Road is that it is relatively straight and wide but it has a number of humps and dips which can affect vision.”

He added: “It's difficult to know what to do. With an unlimited budget we'd level the whole thing out.

“I will be going to the highways department to see if there is any traffic management can be put there to slow traffic down.”

Mr Wharf sadly it's the driving that causes accidents not the roads. You could spend millions of pounds on stable door reactions to every single accident that happens within our glorious county. You'd be better off spending your budget on education.

Haha talk sense man ! Mr Whalf must be angling for the teen age vote..
5 youths, a small car , an empty road and 1am in the morning.. perfect scenario for a crash and I do like the description that the car `Flipped over`
I have been driving for more years than I car to remember but when driving I have never had a car flip over, maybe it was a driving error ... oh no it was the dips in the road...
ah well lets hope that the injured recover and learn by their mistakes.
