Body of man found in tree identified as missing 21-year-old from Bournemouth

A BODY found in a tree at a Bournemouth golf course is believed to be that of 21-year-old Lithuanian man who went missing three years ago.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said the man is thought to be Jurij Sliachtecov, who was last seen on April 2011.

Mr Sliachtecov, who lived on St Peter’s Road, was reported missing on May 1, 2011, after he had not been seen for two days.

Police became increasingly concerned for his welfare after it emerged in his last conversation with his girlfriend he told her "she would not see him again".

Following his disappearance, Mr Sliachtecov’s close friend Julija Paskevica made an emotional appeal for him to make contact.

She said: "Jurij, we can understand if you are upset or having a rough time, but we just want to be sure that you are ok. You are very important to us all."

Originally his friends believed he had returned to Lithuania because he had left his bank cards and clothes but had taken his passport.

However he had not been in touch with his family back home and authorities had no record of him entering the country.

His family became increasingly worried after he failed to contact his grandmother, who he considered to be his mother, on the Lithuanian equivalent of Mothers' day on 1 May - something he had never missed before.

Police made various appeals for information about his whereabouts over the past three years, the most recent being at Christmas last year.

In Lithuania an appeal was broadcast of the country’s equivalent to Crimewatch pleading for anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward,

A spokesman from Dorset Police said Mr Sliachtecov’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed but a formal identification is yet to take place.

The body was discovered 40ft up a tree at The Club at Meyrick Park on Monday, March 31, after a dog dragged an arm from the undergrowth.

Dorset Police say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Initial investigations revealed the body was thought to have been there for around two years.

A spokesperson from the force said: “Dorset Police suspect that the person committed suicide.”

I'm sorry for your loss, but you really do post some strange messages, everybody looses family members, it does not mean you know what someone is going through the parents of this boy have to deal with thinking about the son being dead 40ft in a tree unfounded for 3 years thousands of miles from home, but obviously you are more important.

No parent should bury their own child no matter what the circumstances. It's very sad when someone chooses to take their life. I feel so sorry for the family. They did not know what happened to their loved one, and now, after seven years they have to deal with this news and very undignified circumstances. The ones lost are at peace, but it is those left behind that suffer. This young man didn't feel that he had a choice other than to take his own life, and clearly took steps to make sure he could not be stopped or even found. We should all value life, but when someone has severe depression and sees no way out, their life has no value or meaning to them. It's a fatal condition, but it needn't be if mental health was properly funded and treated. It is not.

This is probably the most sensible comment I've ever seen on this website.

Growing up is not easy. It's okay to struggle, just make sure you talk to someone. You'll be surprised as to how many people will listen and care. You're never alone despite how it may feel.

Why is my message so strange my son died in a RTC going to work and the driver of the van drove off and left him to die so I find it hard to understand why this young man with his whole life ahead of him decided to end it..... and why he could not have asked for help..... I find it very sad

The two incidents are not related.
I don't think anyone wants to take anything away from you in regards to the justifiably sad feelings you have.

I think people find issue with you making this sad incident about a young man who couldn't cope with the stresses and strains of life, about you and your own loss.

This man probably didn't feel that he decided to take his life. He probably felt that that decision had been made for him

Unless you've experienced suicidal thoughts it is very hard to understand, it's a mental illness though and when people try to kill themselves it's not a rational thought and their mind is no longer in a rational place. It's very easy to judge somebody from a logical point of view but unless you've walked a mile in their shoes and felt the depth of their despair it's best not to judge other people's mental health.
