A NEW cafe centred around freshly roasted Malawian coffee - Maravi & Wellness is Trader of the Week.
Found in The Arcade off Gervis Place, Maravi & Wellness is a boutique café serving up coffee, croissants, and cakes.
The brand was first launched in Malawi in Southeast Africa - where it currently has three 'successful cafes open across the country'.
The Bournemouth branch, which opened just last month, is Maravi’s debut in the United Kingdom.
Adam Gaffar, director at Maravi & Wellness, said: “When we first started, it was a dream of ours to reach an international market.
“The feedback has been exceptional.”
While the café serves a range of drinks and sweet treats, its main focus is its coffee.
Maravi uses coffee beans sourced directly from smallholder farmers in Malawi which are then freshly roasted in-house every few days.
Adam said that the business was formed with a view of sharing the country’s “beautiful coffee” while tackling its farming problems.
He told the Daily Echo: “We started off with this idea of a café, because I’m a coffee lover, and I found that coffee farmers in Malawi are exploited.
“I was thinking we have beautiful coffee, one of the best. I thought, ‘why can’t we compete with all the other coffee makers? And could we create a model that would help the farmers too?’”

As well as providing delicious coffee, it is just as important to provide a top-tier service, Adam said.
He said: “We have three components of the business. Atmosphere, product, and service. They are very important to us, and not one is above the other.
“The people of Malawi have similar principles to what we want. They are spiritual people, and they operate from the heart. It fits well with us.
“We have had great views about our service. People are not used to good service, they think we are just trying to get them to spend, but it’s just a principle of our business.”
