A TRADITIONAL English pub adored by locals- The Porterhouse is Pub of the Week.
The Porterhouse is a well-loved pub in the heart of Westbourne, boasting character and a cracking selection of real ale.
It welcomed new landlords only six weeks ago- husband and wife Aaron and Kristen Watson- and the pair have already made friends with all the locals.
Aaron said: “The majority of them come back everyday, and we are seeing some new faces as well which is good.
“It’s definitely getting busier.”

Long before it was The Porterhouse, the premises was in the hands of several other businesses. In the 70s, it had been a wine bar named Valentinos, before it was taken over by Ringwood Brewery and turned into the “Old Thumper”.
It is also understood to have been owned by C Dales Photography prior to the 70s.
Now, the pub is owned by Marstons but has maintained its old fashioned look, popular Sunday lunches, and a busy entertainment calandar.
Aaron said: “Every Monday we do an open mic night, or a karaoke night. It switches between the two. The open mic was already set up in here, but we added the karaoke. The first will be on Monday (September 12).
“Monday is also real ale day. All real ales are £2.80 a pint and that starts from 12pm.
“There are quiz nights on Tuesday. Friday we have a DJ, and Saturday we have live singers and bands.”

With Kristen growing up in Dorset, and Aaron living there for ten years, the couple are also sparing time to give back to the community, and are preparing to host their first charity event later this month.
Aaron said: “We’re doing a charity event on September 29 for the Westbourne Rotary Club to get new sensory equipment at the Victoria school- it’s a disability school.
"We’re hosting 40-50 people in here for a two course meal. It’s going to be a Hawaiian theme with decorations. We’ve got a live band called Never Mind the Bongos."
