Every week we celebrate the great things about our brilliant selection of pubs and bars in Dorset.

We know hospitality owners and workers have been through the mill in the past couple of years.

Which is why we believe it is so important to support local businesses and shine a spotlight on the great work they do - and the joy they bring us.

We've looked back at our most popular pubs of the week throughout 2021 and thought we would bring you the highlights.

1) Pavilion Arms in Bournemouth

After an extensive refurbishment and a change of name this year, the landmark Bournemouth pub is building up a new following.

The Pavilion Arms – at the town’s Cemetery Junction – was for many years known as the Dean Park Inn.

Butcombe Brewing Co took over the venue and unveiled its new appearance and identity earlier this year.

2) Poole Arms, Poole Quay

It can claim to be the oldest pub on Poole Quay, having first served refreshment to the working people of the area in 1635.

The Poole Arms is also one of the most distinctive pubs you could find.

It is clad in green tiles and bears the Poole coat of arms. Inside, there are pews and wood-panelled walls, along with pictures depicting Poole as it was in bygone times.

3) The Sandford Pub, near Wareham

The Sandford Pub has previously won the the Community Hero of the Year award, amongst other awards for burgers offered at the pub as well as awards for the menu.

However, there is more to the pub than its remarkable achievements.

Owner of seven years, Jamie Perry said: "We pride ourselves on being a family friendly establishment. On average, we usually raise about £10,000 a year for local charities.

4) The Brewhouse in Poole

No frills and no food – that is how a popular Poole pub has been described by a regular.

The Brewhouse in Poole High Street is at the heart of the town's community, offering a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike.

The Brewhouse is host to a wide range of regulars, ranging from 18-year-olds to 80-year-olds who have visited the pub since it first opened in the early 1980s.

5) The Green Man, Wimborne

The pub is heavily involved in all aspects of community life, from sourcing local produce to supporting local charities and organisations.

The Green Man pub in Victoria Road, Wimborne has been under the management of married couple Kat and Scott Valenti for nearly five years.

Kat said: "When we moved in the pub was very much a community pub and we kept it like that.
