Parkstone, Penn Hill and Canford Cliffs Safer Neighbourhood Team neighbourhood policing team

PC Jane Newcombe

I work as a Police Constable for my local Safer Neighbourhood Team. My role is varied and typical duties relate to keeping the peace, law enforcement, protection of persons and property, and the investigation of crimes.

As an officer I am expected to respond to a variety of situations that may arise while they are on duty.

PC Simon Bridge

I work as a Police Constable for my local Safer Neighbourhood Team. My role is varied and typical duties relate to keeping the peace, law enforcement, protection of persons and property, and the investigation of crimes.

As an officer I am expected to respond to a variety of situations that may arise while they are on duty.

PCSO Lindy Wilson

I am a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and work as part of my local Safer Neighbourhood Team. It is extremely important that I am out and about in the community, talking to people about local issues.

PCSOs work to increase public confidence by reducing not only crime but also the fear of crime. We aim to deter anti-social behaviour and improve the physical appearance of towns and villages as well as to provide reassurance to the community. We are also a main point of contact between members of the public and the police.

PS Ray Willmore

My role is Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant. I manage a team of PCs, PCSOs, special constables and volunteers in tackling issues that have an impact on the community as a whole. A typical day for me involves the looking after, directing and guiding those individuals I have in my charge.

It is important that I am aware of any incidents that occur on my patch, so that I can brief my team on what might be expected of them.

About this neighbourhood

map

Poole is a town with a mix of tourism and industry. It has the largest natural harbour in Europe. Brownsea Island is one of the few sites where red squirrels survive. The beaches have won nineteen Blue Flag awards and two Premier Seaside Awards. Its heathland is a site of special scientific interest.

The town is home to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Poole Pirates Speedway team, and Sunseeker the luxury motor yacht constructor. The Merck Group – the world's leading manufacturer of liquid crystals found in computers, watches and TV sets, has a centre for excellence in Poole. The RNLI also has its national headquarters in Poole and operates a fleet of lifeboats from there.

With the introduction of Safer Neighbourhood Teams they provide a regular and highly visible on-street presence, tackling issues of concern to the communities they serve.

Crime levels within Poole South have decreased over the past three years – from 7420 offences in the year ending March 2005 to 6613 offences in the year ending March 2008, a fall of around 10.8 per cent. This represents 807 fewer victims of crime than there were three years ago.

The average yearly detection rate for all crime during the same period was 24 per cent.

The police at Poole South are committed to reducing crime and the opportunity for crime as well as reducing anti-social behaviour. The policing takes place on many fronts: community policing, response, operations, partnership and investigations.
