A Weymouth and Portland Borough Council plan is to be re-submitted calling for the supercentre to be located in the Weymouth area.
Suggestions will be put forward for the MOC location in the south.
In the original plan, submitted in March, it was suggested the MOC could be built within the Land Registry building in Weymouth.
Dorset County Councillor Robert Gould cabinet member for the environment, said the council is backing the borough council’s bid for the MOC south to come to the area.
He said: “There are people who have local experience along the coastline and we don’t want to lose that.
“We’re putting a great deal of effort into promoting our coastline – the Jurassic Coast is of world standard and an extremely important part of the local area.”
