DORSET'S exciting new indoor three-rinker will be open for business in under two months.

The building of the Dorset Resort IBC green at the Dorset Golf and Country Club, Bere Regis, is running on schedule with the carpet due to be laid on August 17 and play to begin a week later.

With the roof already in place the bricklayers are starting to construct the walls which will then allow for internal work to be done on the electrics, changing rooms, viewing gallery, gym and sauna.

Marc Windust – corporate and society manager of Dorset Golf and Country Club – said: “There will be open meetings during August to explain to everyone exactly how the leagues, competitions and matches will be organised.

“Everyone will be made most welcome and you will be joining a brand new indoor bowling club – it should be great fun.”

The club have already welcomed their first international in Vivienne Mansell, the Dorset Atherley Trophy skip who has joined after many years playing for Isle of Purbeck at Swanage.

Should the indoor venture prove successful John Champion – a dedicated bowler and co-owner of the complex – would look at extending bowls to include an outdoor green.

He has already put the Dorset Resort IBC on the national map by signing a corporate partner deal with Bowls England to sponsor the ladies' outdoor fours in the national championships at Royal Leamington Spa this summer – and the Dorset Resort have also become a corporate sponsor of the EIBA and are sponsoring the Vivienne Trophy, a ladies' team event.

Newcomers to the sport will be under the wing of county liaison coach Peter Sherlock and leagues will be formed during September with a mixture of experienced and inexperienced bowlers in each team to start the following month.

With more than 150 names on the prospective membership list interest is high – and Dorset Resort are now looking to recruit another 50 members with the offer of a special discounted price of £40 per person per year for the first 200 members who sign up. Rink fees will be £2 per person for each session.

For inquiries about reserving a place on the discounted membership list or to view the facilities telephone the Dorset Golf and Country Club on 01929 472244.
