URGENT action is need over a high kerb which has injured several people.

Hair stylist Bindy Hall said the obstacle at the junction of Park Street and Gloucester Street, Weymouth, – twice the height of other pavements – has been responsible for a string of injuries.

She has helped many of the victims and said: “I feel it is a death waiting to happen. I almost have to go out there daily to pick people up.”

The catalogue of injuries includes a woman who fell and embedded her spectacles in her head and pensioners left battered, bruised and covered in blood.

Mrs Hall, who works at A Cut Above, said: “Mostly people are shaken but other times there has been a lot of blood.

“Two weeks ago a woman fell over and embedded her glasses in her head. It was awful and we called an ambulance.

“At the time I was really angry because I had phoned the council about the pavement before.

“They said they didn’t have the money, but how much does it cost to repair a piece of pavement?

“Many people have complained but nothing has been done and we feel it is about time the council tackled the problem.

“I always say to people I help that if it was my mum I would be furious... then on Wednesday, it was.

“She is 75, came down and tripped over the high pavement. Now she has a huge bruise which is like she has been kicked by a horse.”

Mrs Hall said that she had counted more than 30 incidents involving all ages but mostly elderly people who trip and crash to the ground after misjudging the height.

She added: “It is only a matter of time before we get someone dying, by which time it will be too late for the council to act.”

A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland council said: “There is no standard height for pavements but we will investigate the matter.”
