A CCTV camera has been installed in a road in Dorchester in efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Dorchester Police have been working in partnership with Dorset Council Partnerships community safety team to combat ongoing anti-social behaviour in the Victoria Park area, particularly along Dagmar Road.

It led to a CCTV camera being recently installed in Dagmar Road with the hopes of deterring the unwanted behaviour.

One resident in the road, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that situation had been getting “out of control”. The 37-year-old said: “The police have been called out so many times I’ve lost count. I think people were starting to give up. I had no idea a camera was getting installed but I think it is a great idea. We’ve already noticed a difference in the few weeks it has been up.”

She added: “It has been an absolute nightmare up until now. The young kids causing all the trouble just don’t care. We have a few elderly people in the road and they genially are too scared to leave their homes at times. It’s disgusting. Now if they cause any trouble they will be caught on camera and prosecuted. Enough is enough.”

She said that people had had their cars damaged and been personally targeted for calling the police or trying to get them to stop causing trouble.

Dorchester town councillor, Gerald Duke, who represents the ward said: “Anti-social behaviour in the area has become an increasing problem. Growing concerns have been highlighted from a number of residents in the area.I’m glad the CCTV camera has been installed, I just hope it works as acting as a deterrent and doesn’t just move them on to a different area in the town.”

Dorchester police officer Mark Wodarek-Black, added: “We have had ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour in that area and the streets surrounding it. We are working in partnership with the council to install cameras to hopefully help reduce the problem.”

“People have already contact us to say they think the cameras are a great idea and will help tremendously.

“The camera we have installed is a very good quality camera and will produce good imaging if we need it.”
