FUNDRAISING fever broke out yet again for Children in Need.

Hundreds of people in Weymouth have teamed together to produce a Christmas song in aid of Children in Need.

Singers, dancers, donkeys and Santa gathered on the Pelican tall ship to film the charity song ‘Christmas in the Sun’ for BBC Children in Need 2014.

Ysanne Carniss-Usherwood decided to bring the community together to raise money for the charity by releasing a Christmas song and video, filmed in Weymouth.

She said: “I think in one way or another about 200 people from Weymouth have been involved.

“It’s a big community thing, everyone has come together – this song could go for years and years, it’s that kind of song.”

Lauren Sheers, seven, was one of 34 dancers from Platinum Dance School who got involved with the song, she said: “It was really fun to take part and I’m really happy to be doing something for Children in Need.”

Staff at the Weymouth branch of Lloyds Bank have raised more than £1,000 for Children In Need following a raffle and fun day.

Community champion Esther Sheppard organised the event which included themed cupcakes, a magician and a special appearance by Pudsey Bear.

Superheroes were out in force at Wareham St Mary Primary School. The 185 youngsters at the school were powering their way around the corridors in aid of Children in Need.

Associate Governor Claire Burns said: “Our school feels a very safe place to be. We are proud to announce that we have nearly raised £130 so far for Children in Need.”

The Londis store on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth got into the spirit of fundraising with a raffle prize draw.

Penny, from the store also sold Pudsey Biscuits and cup cakes supplied by Kirsty’s Kup Kakes.

Meanwhile, Cowboys and Indians was the theme of the day at Asda Weymouth.

Staff dressed up and sold cakes in aid of Children in Need and youngsters were able to have their photos taken with Pudsey the Bear.

And staff at Studio Print at Poundbury lived up to their superhero costumes.

They took dares from customers who sponsored Children in Need.

Superheroes were the fancy dress theme of the day for a number of schools including St Michael’s school in Lyme Regis, St Mary’s school in Bridport, Bridport primary, Mountjoy School and St Mary’s in Beaminster.

Non-uniform days were also on the cards and Powerstock School held a fancy dress theme of ‘All things bright and beautiful’.
