A PACKAGE of improvements for pedestrians costing £70,000 is under way in Didcot.

The measures include three new pedestrian crossings and an upgade to a fourth.

The new zebra crossings costing £20,000 each are being installed in Avon Way and Tyne Avenue on the Ladygrove estate. The crossings are close to the entrance of Ladygrove Park Primary School. Another £20,000 crossing is being built at Foxhall Road where work started last Monday.

And an existing zebra crossing in Wantage Road has been upgraded with beacons and new road markings costing £4,000. County councillor for Didcot South, Tony Harbour, campaigned for the improvements.

He said: “We have tried to introduce these improvements after listening to people’s concerns and potentially these new crossings could help to save lives.”

Mr Harbour used money from his county council Area Stewardship Fund allowance after he was lobbied by pupils from Didcot Girls’ School, and other residents.

A further £6,000 from Mr Harbour’s allocation is being spent on zebra crossing warning signs at the other end of Foxhall Road near the barracks.
