RESIDENTS have been warned that they may face ‘some inconvenience’ as resurfacing of two major routes in Dorchester starts next week.
Dorset County Council will begin work on Maumbury Road between Monmouth Avenue and Weymouth Avenue on Monday.
The work will be carried out between 9am and 4pm with traffic directed along South Court Avenue, Culliford Road, Prince of Wales Road and Weymouth Avenue.
The remaining section of Maumbury Road from Weymouth Avenue to the Great Western junction will be carried out at night with work starting on Tuesday, March 5 and finishing by Saturday, March 9.
Traffic will be diverted along Weymouth Avenue and Great Western Road.
The following week from Monday March 11 will see night work to resurface Weymouth Avenue between the Maumbury Road junction and Sawmills Lane.
Vehicles will be diverted along the Dorchester bypass, Allington Avenue, Prince of Wales Road and Weymouth Avenue.
All of the night work will be carried out between 7pm and 6pm with access maintained for emergency vehicles.
Head of highways operations Andrew Martin said: “We know that resurfacing works can be very disruptive to traffic, which is why we try to do as much as possible as night work.
“There will be some inconvenience to residents living in the area but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.”
From Monday work will also be taking place during the day to build a shared use cycleway and footpath on the west side of Weymouth Avenue between Druids Walk and Maiden Castle Road.
Seven weeks have been allowed for the construction of the cycleway and some traffic management may be required outside of rush-hour.
