ARSENAL legend Ian Wright hailed Cherries’ “unbelievable” first-half performance against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Cherries took a shock 1-0 lead at the Amex, Ryan Christie winning the ball off goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen before Dominic Solanke applied the finish.

But Milos Kerkez headed into his own net from a Billy Gilmour cross on the stroke of half-time and a Kaoru Mitoma strike 15 seconds into the second half swung the game.

Mitoma went on to score again as the Seagulls ran out 3-1 victors, leaving Andoni Iraola’s Cherries winless.

Speaking in his role as pundit on BBC's Match of the Day, former England international and Gunners striker Wright said: “It was a really good performance, up to a certain point.

“Simply because we know that Brighton are not going to change the way that they play, they want to play out.

“I thought that Bournemouth were unbelievable in the first half in the way they closed them down and gave them no time, no space on the ball.

“Yes, we know that there were certain players that weren’t playing at the time, maybe he (Roberto De Zerbi) made too many changes.

“But you look at Bournemouth’s closing down.

“I don’t think he’ll want his goalie Verbruggen to change, but this time they get punished for it. He does well there Solanke. It’s not easy when you’ve got that much time, but he took it well.”

Wright continued: “In stoppage time, once the ball has gone back to Billy Gilmour, you’ve got to push up, the goalie has got to be pushing them up.

“Then they score and you’re thinking to yourself they’re going in now and it’s 1-1, we’ve got to go out and do the same thing again. Then 15 seconds in, Brighton are back in it.”
